Shooting at outlet mall in Dallas suburb leaves at least 9 dead, 7 injured

On Saturday, May 7th, 2023, a tragic shooting occurred at the Allen Premium Outlets in a Dallas suburb. The incident resulted in at least nine people losing their lives, including the shooter, and seven others being injured. The shooter is believed to have acted alone, and the officer from the Allen Police Department who responded to the scene neutralized the shooter before calling for emergency personnel.

The incident took place at 3:36 p.m., and the officer from the Allen Police Department heard gunshots while out on an unrelated call. After neutralizing the shooter, the officer called for emergency personnel, and a multi-agency response helped secure the mall. Seven people, including the shooter, were pronounced dead on the scene, and nine people were transported to area hospitals.

Medical City Healthcare, a Dallas-area hospital system, stated in a written statement that it was treating eight people between the ages of 5 and 61. Of the nine hospitalized, two people have since died, three are in critical condition, and four are in stable condition, according to Allen Fire Department Chief Jonathan Boyd.

The shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets has shocked the community and the nation. Texas Governor Gregg Abbott issued a statement expressing his condolences and offering support to the victims and their families. He also pledged the full support of the State of Texas to local officials to ensure all needed assistance and resources are swiftly deployed, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources.

U.S. Rep. Keith Self, whose congressional district includes Collin County, tweeted his condolences and expressed his devastation over the tragic incident. The White House also released a statement indicating that President Biden had been briefed on the shooting and was in touch with law enforcement and local officials to offer support.

The incident has left the community in mourning, and a vigil is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sunday at Cottonwood Creek Church in the city of Allen. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the motive behind the shooting.

Incidents like this remind us of the need for continued efforts to prevent gun violence in our communities. While we mourn the loss of life and pray for the recovery of the injured, we must also work together to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As this is a developing story, we must be careful to rely on reports from police officials and other authorities, as well as credible news outlets and reporters who are at the scene. We will continue to update as the situation develops. Our deepest sympathies are with the families of the victims, and we stand with the community of Allen in this difficult time.
