 The U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) is set to take on Vietnam in its opening match of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup at Eden Park in Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau. The match will kick off at 1 p.m. local time in Auckland on Saturday, July 22, which corresponds to 9 p.m. ET on July 21 for viewers in the United States. The game will be broadcast on FOX, Telemundo, Universo, and Peacock.


This will be the first-ever meeting between the USA and Vietnam, and it marks the fifth consecutive World Cup in which the USWNT has faced an opponent from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in its opening game of the tournament. In previous World Cups, the USWNT opened against Korea DPR in 2007 and 2011, Australia in 2015, and Thailand in 2019.


The USA's roster for the 2023 Women's World Cup features a mix of veterans and young stars, with nine players who were part of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad and 14 players who are making their first World Cup appearance.


The USWNT enters the World Cup with a strong record under head coach Vlatko Andonovski, with 50 wins, 6 draws, and 5 losses in 61 games.


The group stage of the 2023 Women's World Cup will see the USA facing Vietnam, Portugal, and the Netherlands. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Round of 16.

As for Vietnam, this will be their first-ever appearance in a Women's World Cup. They qualified for the tournament by winning the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup Play-off.
