Star Wars

The Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony for the late actress Carrie Fisher was a touching moment for fans and family alike. Fisher, best known for her iconic portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars film series, was posthumously given the honor on May 4, which is commonly referred to as "Star Wars Day" due to the date's resemblance to one of the series' catchphrases, "may the Force be with you."

Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, attended the unveiling and shared heartwarming anecdotes about her mother. Lourd spoke of the joy Fisher brought to Star Wars fans by flinging glitter at conventions and shared how she brought some of that sparkle to the Walk of Fame ceremony by sprinkling glitter over Fisher's star after the unveiling.

Lourd also reminisced about how she was initially uninterested in the Star Wars movies as a child but later grew to love them and appreciate her mother's iconic role as Princess Leia. She praised Fisher's wit and writing skills, noting that her mother wrote seven books and had a talent for crafting memorable tweets and persuasive notes excusing her from school.

Mark Hamill, who played Fisher's on-screen twin brother Luke Skywalker, also attended the ceremony and shared his own memories of meeting Fisher before filming the first Star Wars movie. He spoke of her charm, humor, wisdom, and frankness, noting that she exceeded his expectations in every way.

Fisher's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is located near Hamill's, adding to the poignant connection between the two beloved actors. Though Fisher was known for her portrayal of Princess Leia, she also had notable roles in films like When Harry Met Sally and The Blues Brothers and was nominated for Emmys for guest appearances on TV shows like 30 Rock and Catastrophe. Her one-woman show, Wishful Drinking, was also a hit with audiences.

Despite her many accomplishments, it is clear that Fisher's legacy will forever be intertwined with her iconic role as Princess Leia. As Lourd noted, people waited in line for hours just to meet Fisher, named their children after her, and got tattoos of her likeness. Through Leia, Fisher inspired generations of fans and left an indelible mark on pop culture.
