 Certainly!

The Export-Import Federation of Tiruchirappalli recently organized a guidance program in Trichy with the aim of exploring emerging export opportunities in the food sector. The program targeted entrepreneurs and existing exporters in the Cauvery delta region and emphasized the importance of value addition for export growth.

However, entrepreneurs faced challenges in taking up exports due to the lack of local accredited laboratories for quality certification. Despite this, several entrepreneurs are exporting non-basmati rice to Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka, but they have not yet ventured into the markets in the United States of America and Europe due to associated risks and tedious processes.

Experts suggested that value-added products, such as rice crackers made from traditional rice breeds like Karuppu Kavuni and Mapillai Samba, are in high demand. To support startups eyeing such value addition, the EDII-Trichy agribusiness forum offered mentorship programs.

The event was attended by 22 exporters who specialize in exporting vegetables, fruits, flowers, and devotional articles. The guidance program aimed to encourage more entrepreneurs to capitalize on export opportunities in the food sector, overcome challenges such as quality certification, and ultimately grow their businesses.
